"GIANT consortium: Gene Identification for ANthropometric Traits". The GIANT consortium is an international collaboration between several research groups. The researchers involved in this Consortium aim to discover genes that influences our body growth, in particular: height, body mass index, weight, and hip/waist ratio. From 2008, there have been many publications resulting from this cooperation, some of which not only discovered variants but also interesting features such as how they function differently between males and females. Over the years, new research groups are entering the consortium, and from the initial study of 5,000 individuals, the current effort study the genome of about 1 million individuals from all over the word!
